Hi Cathy,
You can work with a translator if necessary. We muddled through on our own and our French wasn't very good when we started. I think it depends on the social work team. Good luck and let me know if I can be of any help.

Hi there,
Thanks for sharing your story - do you think it is a disadvantage if we don't speak French fluently or can we work with a translator for the details? We live in France and are learning the language but doubt we will be able to hold stressful, detailed conversations that will do us justice!
thanks

Hi Lisa

My husband is Australian and I am an American. We are well on our way to adoption in Colombia while living in the US and have been relocated to HK. We are looking for a social worker to do our home study update and have contacted multiple agencies in HK but are having trouble with that. Do you happen to have a contact for a social worker that you worked with while in HK?

Many thanks and congratulations on your beautiful family

I am American and considering taking a temporary (1 year) job in London. My husband and I had planned to move forward with an independent adoption from Uganda (non-Hague), but I am reluctant to take the job if it means the adoption process could take considerably longer and be more expensive. My questions are:
1. Would we need to follow UK adoption law to allow adopted child into UK with us?
2. Would we need to go to U.S. to finalize adoption or can that be done at U.S. Consulate/Embassy in UK?
3. Would we need to finalize adoption in U.S. before child is allowed in UK with us?
4. If we end up returning permanently to U.S. before we we pick up child in Uganda, does that put entire adoption in jeopardy since our address changes?
5. If our permanent residence remains in U.S., and we return permanently to U.S. before we pick up child in Uganda, can we move forward with a normal international adoption (as if we were permanent residents of U.S.)?

Thank you in advance for your help!

We have two grils from Russia adopted at age 3 and 4. For the last 15 years they were given a loving and caring home. We knew that they strugled with learning and emotionals issues. For the most part they appeared to respond to our love. However, at age 20 we have faced the reality that our daughter realy never recovered from her deep sense of abandonment by her biological mother. She now seeks destructive relationships with men outside the family. She feels that she must own and conttrol those relationships. It is though showing real love for the past 15 years did not exsist. We still love them and always will.
